5 things we loved this week

By Fashion Quarterly

There’s something for everyone this week with long awaited new arrivals across the beauty, fashion, food, and travel scenes. Here’s what you missed.

1. Improbable combinations

Dries Van Noten’s eponymous beauty collection has launched exclusively in Mecca. Dries Van Noten is a visionary designer with over 30 years of experience, renowned for his bold contrasts. This distinctive style is reflected in his fragrance, make-up, and accessories collections (read: hand painted bottles, contrasting lipstick cases, combs, mirrors and lip brushes) making them highly sought-after among those with a discerning eye. Every detail offers a unique sensory experience that draws you closer to Van Noten’s world. With many of his fragrances already sold out, there’s plenty of discovery sets left in stock for you to find your perfect match.

2. The suite life

Do you foresee a lot of international travel in your future? What about 365 days of free coffee? Dis-loyalty is a travel and food membership by global luxury hotel collective Ennismore that unlocks an impressive series of discounts across a select number of hotels and restaurants–including SO/ Auckland. Their membership–currently on sale for their birthday–is a clever way to see the world, or to upgrade your existing euro-summer plans. Benefits include 50% off new hotels for the first three months, 20% off first-time stays, 10% off return visits, 10% off food and drinks, and 365 free barista-made drinks—one for every day of the year. Do yourself a favour and check-in… uhh, we mean check it out.

3. Under fire

Rooftop exposure with the creature comforts of feeling supremely cosy and snug? Queens’ new menu developed by Chef Maia has you covered. Admire the breathtaking 270-degree panoramic view of the Waitematā Harbour while devouring the latest dishes, namely the: Torched Taleggio, paired with a creamy mushroom parfait, pickled shiitake mushrooms, toasted sourdough, and whipped brown butter; the Lamb Koftas, served with garlic-packed Toum sauce, pink pickles, and a drizzle of pomegranate molasses; and the Grilled Halloumi Skewers, marinated in herbs and lemon, served with a sweet and zesty black olive tapenade.

4. Here comes the sun

Why wait for the forecast when you can set it? That’s the idea behind Moochi’s incoming drops for spring, anyhow. The local label is predicting brighter days ahead offering pieces you can wear just as seamlessly at your 9am-5pm as you can your 5pm-9am. A palette of chocolate florals, pistachio green and oyster lift spirits complementing your foundational wardrobe of hardworking monochromatic pieces. Expect utilitarian linen shirting, heavyweight broderie anglaise lace, gathered yoke blouses in silky sheen finishes, and textured knitwear.

5. Ovaries. Talk About Them.

Australian fashion label Camilla and Marc have long been championing research for ovarian cancer with their charity ‘Ovaries. Let’s Talk About them’. This week, they released their latest limited edition range of t-shirts, hoodies and caps which are used to not only bring awareness to the cause, but to raise money for the development of an early-detection test in partnership with the University of New South Wales. Over 310,000 women are diagnosed worldwide each year, with over 75% diagnosed in the late stages when it is often too late. FQ spoke to professor Caroline Ford on their latest medical breakthrough and how to spot the symptoms. Learn more and shop the collection here.
