5 things we loved this week

By Fashion Quarterly

Early August creature comforts fall into our laps this week with new arrivals from Kowtow, Oddity, Le Creuset and more.

1. Back bone

Drawing inspiration from the tree canopy above, the minerals below, and the rare gems hidden beneath the earth’s surface, Kowtow’s new Terra collection pays tribute to the workwear of potters, artists, and ceramicists who craft solid, structural forms in harmony with nature. In line with Kowtow’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, this collection marks an exciting innovation: their debut use of natural rubber elastic for shirring. This development not only maintains their plastic-free ethos but also introduces new, functional shapes to their beautiful designs. We’ve pinned many pieces to our capsule wardrobe vision board, namely the Mile Trench, Ridge Sweater (both pictured above) and the Imogen Shirt

2. Space oddity

If you fashion your fragrances on display like you would a small sculpture, you’ll want to add one of Oddity’s exquisite limited-edition bottles into the fold. Established in 2020 by legendary perfumer Mark Buxton (of Comme des Garçons, Le Labo fame), and rising star David Chieze, Oddity’s scents use rare ingredients from Grasse, France, to realise unique blends to adorn the skin, hair and body. Housed in vessels with handcrafted caps made from wood scraps, discover: Naked Dance, a warm and sensual blend of orange blossom, clay, and guaiac wood oil; Dead Air, a theatrical mix of violet leaf abs, salt accord, and oakwood; and Resonant, a crisp and clear fusion of yuzu, mandarin, musk and guaiac wood. Available exclusively from Tessuti.

3. Gin for the win

Local distiller Strange Nature Gin has been ranked number one New Zealand wine and spirit in 2024 at the International Wines & Spirits Competition (IWSC). Renowned for their bottle design and grape-based gin distilled exclusively from the spirit of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, Strange Nature Gin’s 98/100 – Gold Outstanding achievement places it in the top two percent of awarded spirits globally. And if that’s not enough to encourage you to race out and secure a bottle from your local, we’ll leave you with the tasting notes… “A wonderfully vibrant aromatic profile, bursting with gooseberries and zesty citrus, leading to a resinous, juniper forefront. Pristine and bold on the palate, with a juicy grape base shining through and finishing with an expressive blend of bright Riesling grapes and freshly ground coffee.”

4. Spring harvest

Adding character to our cookery since 1925, Le Creuset has introduced a limited-edition 11-piece Harvest collection. Inspired by the rich, earthy tones of freshly harvested pumpkins to the cool, crisp hues of garden vegetables, we’re quietly obsessed with the wholesome take on their iconic cast iron casserole dishes. But if it’s a spooky soiree you’re planning, you’ll find Halloween stoneware sets in shades of Thyme, Volcanic, Meringue, and Sea Salt to bring your tablescape to life. Expanding to include a selection of mugs, cocottes and mini dishes, the harvest collection makes handsome gifts for both you and your deserving neighbours this season.

5. Letters from the heart

Personalised jewellery is such a sweet gesture but oftentimes comes with a bitter price tag. Which is precisely why we love the ongoing initiative from Sophie Store, expanding their range to include customisable necklaces, bracelets, and more, to pay someone a super special gift or act of kindness. Depending on your timeline, you can have a unique piece made where individual letters are soldered into your choice of chains, or opt for a mix it up style where you can pick from a series of pendants including letters and motifs for the ultimate keepsake. As storytellers, we have a penchant for anything sentimental but if you’re struggling to find the words, Sophie Store’s personalised jewellery seems to always know how to say it.
