5 things we loved this week

Martinborough’s newest dining spot serenades us with the sound of spring; Pat Menzies opens its doors to a refurbished Converse store; Mahsa launches a new capsule collection, and more…

1. The essentials

As much as we love adding new statement pieces to our wardrobes, it’s always the timeless staples that we derive countless joy from. It is this very ethos that served as the inspiration for Mahsa’s latest collection ‘Fundamentals’ – a versatile four-piece capsule curated for effortless everyday dressing. Designed with the modern woman in mind, the collection boasts a classic cotton rib singlet, a matching cotton rib cardigan, a floor-length skirt (coming in November) and a silky pant, all of which can be mixed, matched and layered together. Like all of the brand’s pieces, the collection is crafted locally in Aotearoa and draws on a neutral palette of black, chocolate brown and sea grey for maximum versatility.

2. Sounds delicious

We didn’t need another reason to encourage you to visit the new Martinborough hotspot The Runholder (and our digital editor’s personal favourite), but thanks to their latest event offering – we’ve found one you’ll want to rush to. Home to wineries Te Kairanga, Martinborough Vineyard, and the Lighthouse Gin distillery, The Runholder is kicking off the seasonal festivities with “A Spring Rhapsody”, an exclusive dining experience in partnership with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. For one night only this Saturday (September 30th), diners can enjoy a decadent three course menu featuring some of the Wairarapa’s finest produce while being serenaded by the delightful tunes of a brass and percussionist ensemble. What better way to spend an idyllic spring evening?

“A Spring Rhapsody” will be held on Saturday September 30th from 5.30pm – 9.30pm. Tickets are $100 per person and available to purchase via the Foley Wine Club. Head to therunholder.co.nz to find out more.

3. A shoe-in

An Auckland institution since the early ’70s, shoe store Pat Menzies has long been the place to go to refresh your footwear repertoire. Since becoming the first New Zealand retailer to stock Converse in the ’90s, the Queen Street icon continues to offer a diverse array of styles from the brand to this day, with a newly-refurbished Converse store-in-store set to open there this Saturday. To celebrate the refreshed space, Pat Menzies are inviting customers in to customise their kicks with a selection of cute and colourful patches when they purchase any pair of full-price Converse.

Head to Pat Menzies on Queen Street this Saturday the 30th of September between 10am and 2pm to secure a pair of customised Converse for yourself.

4. A bone to pick

In a surprising fusion of fashion and fast food, New Zealand jeweller Nick Von K and KFC have joined forces to launch a limited edition jewellery collection to mark the return of KFC’s Hot & Crispy Boneless. Unveiling 11 hand-crafted necklace styles to honour each of the 11 secret herbs and spices that KFC is famous for, each piece in the collection features sterling silver bone designs to symbolise the ones removed from KFC’s chicken. Each style offers a unique look thanks to their bespoke nature, with some encrusted with cubic zirconias while others are adorned with cultured pearls. “Each link is individually cast, and hand finished before being put together to form the chain. It’s time intensive but it’s so worth it for a distinctive look,” said Nick Von K on the designs. If you needed more of an incentive to invest in one of these iconic pieces, KFC will also be selling six of the bespoke necklaces from the collection, with all proceeds being donated to its long-standing charity partner, Surf Life Saving New Zealand.
