5 things we love this week

Perfect the art of autumnal accessorising with fresh pieces from Deadly Ponies, Mi Piaci, and hej hej to work into your transitional wardrobes. On the beauty front, all bases are covered this week with long-awaited product releases from RevitaLash and RAAIE. The time is now to get glowing!

1. High brow

Our beauty regimes are always evolving. As we age, our priorities change. We become increasingly time poor and gravitate to long-lasting low-maintenance solutions over passing fads. But as we all well know, low maintenance is seldom synonymous with low-investment, which means we approach each new product or service with a healthy level of scepticism – unless of course, that new product is by RevitaLash® Cosmetics. The leaders and innovators behind everyone’s luscious lashes and brows have introduced a new Clean Routine collection. Suffice to say, we didn’t bat an eye (or should we say lash?) at the efficacy of its promises. There are two collections: one for lashes; and one for brows. Both featuring a full-sized product and two free gifts, all packaged up in a beautiful gift-worthy box.

  • The Clean Routine Collection for Lashes features a full-sized RevitaLash® Advanced, and two free gifts: a mini Micellar Water Lash Wash, and reusable cleansing rounds, RRP $189 ($220 value)
  • The Clean Routine Collection for Brows includes a full-sized RevitaBrow® Advanced and two free gifts: a mini Micellar Water Lash Wash and reusable cleansing rounds, RRP $159 ($189 value)

Available to shop in-stores and online from March 1, 2023. Visit revitalash.co.nz

2. Milking it

Digital editor Louise and editorial assistant were Amberley fortunate enough to attend the launch of local skincare brand RAAIE’s latest product at Auckland’s multidisciplinary movement studio Sala last month. We came for the yoga and stayed for the highly-anticipated Sun Milk Drops SPF50+ –  the product that has been in development for three years (and for good reason).

According to RAAIE founder Katey Mandy, producing a 100% mineral sunscreen that’s fluid and comfortable on the skin, can be worn alone or under makeup without leaving a white cast, and actually improves the skin barrier isn’t a small feat. Katey explains that 80% of extrinsic ageing (like wrinkles, sun spots, lack of firmness) is caused by UV radiation, which is why it was so important for her to introduce this product to her collection.

Having worn it daily for the past week, we can confirm that this mineral sunscreen with a subtle peach tint is super lightweight, spreads easily, and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth with a subtle sheen. Ideal if you have a penchant for the ‘lit from within’ glow.

But it’s not just your skin that Sun Milk Drops SPF50+ is benefitting. Being 100% mineral also means that its formula is also better for the planet, when compared to its chemical counterpart, too.

3. Bubble & squeak

As the lines between different creative practices continue to blur, the items we accessorise with aren’t just beautiful or functional – they’re sculptural, and they can also have a story to tell. A perfect example of this in motion is Deadly Ponies’ latest instalment for autumn/winter ‘23.

Founder and creative director Liam Bowen lifted tones, textures, and the use of unexpected materials from the works of renowned mid-century artist Francis Bacon, whose triptych of rugs were described as the “finest modernist carpets in existence” for the incoming collections.

Possessing these same tactile qualities while also inherently being cosy and coveted for the cooler season, the rich, chocolatey hue Burnt Toast – a team favourite – continues to dominate, while paler tints reminiscent of Bacon’s palette, lemongrass, marshmallow, and mallowpuff, join in the fun. You can expect new textures, new materials, and moreish combinations of mohair, crushed patent, supple bubble and hues cinnamon, caramel, marsala and jam to spice up your styling.

The second drop of Deadly Ponies’ AW23 collection is available to shop in stores and online from February 28, 2023 at 6pm. Visit deadlyponies.com

4. Creature comforts

For a nation that has historically worn fifty shades of black, it’s encouraging to see more designers embrace colour. Wearing colour has a profound impact on how we look and how we feel. And how we feel about hej hej’s autumn/winter collection is happy. For a transitional collection, it’s been aptly coined: ‘Two Birds. One Stone’, and encompasses their tried-and-trusted linen separates, with supple knits in pretty pinks, powdery blues, and deeper denim blue hues. There are playful custom prints to palate and relaxed styles that will – as the brand so affectionately phrased it – take you from couch slouch to couch chic.

hej hej’s A/W 2023 collection is available online and in-store from March 3, 2023 with drops throughout March and April. Visit hej-hej.co

5. Sole searcher

As summer officially draws to a close and the international designers send their FW ‘23 collections down the runways at fashion week, we have permission to embrace big boot energy. All terrain gumboots, thigh-grazing heights, western detailing, and chunky platforms are just a few styles we’re about to see en masse this season. But these polarising takes can pose some styling conundrums which is why we’re loving Mi Piaci’s collection. They’ve decoded the trends and simplified the equation so we can burst through the opening blocks with ease. Alongside a significant boot offering, you’ll also find some elegant heel options and punctual loafers in curious colourways to spice up your flat game.

Our picks? The Annie leather boots can do no wrong. Oh, and keep an eye out for the Ultra Violet pumps and the Arna boots in vintage cream, so dreamy!
