STAY
We stayed at Fouquet’s in TriBeca. It’s in lower Manhattan, so close to great bars and restaurants. There’s obvious shopping in SoHo about ten minutes away, but TriBeca feels more residential and quieter. Bode and La Garçonne are both in TriBeca, and the newly opened Meadow Lane is a beautiful grocer. We’d also recommend Nine Orchard in the Lower East Side, bordering Dime Square.
DINE
The Odeon is a classic New York institution. You walk in and you could be in New York in 1985 or 1999. It’s timeless. There’s always a new spot opening, but we love an institution. Balthazar is a classic.
The Carlyle Hotel has Bemelmans Bar, which has a live piano player from 5pm.
Get there at 4:30 to get a spot.
SHOP
Both Bode men’s and women’s stores are unique spaces. Bode stands apart from so many other stores and it’s refreshing to visit a space so genuinely connected to the owner’s creativity. Outline in Brooklyn is another great store with a carefully curated selection. They don’t have an online store and are purely bricks and mortar. We admire their commitment to an in-person experience and think it’s a brave approach to business. Printemps was newly opened this year in the Financial District. The interiors were designed by Laura Gonzalez to feel like a luxury Parisian apartment.
SEE
Gagosian Gallery on the Upper East Side is great. There is also one in Chelsea. Beyond the galleries, the best way to experience New York is to walk the city. Take your time and explore on foot. You will stumble across neighbourhoods, cafés, and hidden spots you haven’t read about online. In a digital age where everything is shared instantly, discovering something unique on your own is rare. Walking and exploring is an experience not to be missed. Our first stop after the long flight is always Spencer’s in SoHo. The treatments are so restorative and the lounge feels like you’re stepping into a chic SoHo apartment.
