Sandy strands, salty skin and sunny days. We’ve got 30 simple ways to up your summer beauty game to celebrity status.

1.

Resuscitate lacklustre, sun-parched skin with a sheet mask you’ve stored in the fridge. Say hello to instant hydration.

2.

Swimming in chlorine? Keep your locks  healthy by having a quick rinse of cool water in the shower before you jump in. This way your strands will soak up fresh water instead of the pool’s chemicals.

3.

Wearing lipstick at the beach can result in a seriously sandy mess. But if you can’t go without a slick of colour, a lip tint like Jane Iredale LipDrink SPF15 Lip Balm in Crush, will do the trick without the smudges and gross stick factor.

4.

Curly-haired girls know there’s nothing worse than drying your strands with a beach towel only to be left with fuzz that can’t be tamed. The fix? Pack a few sheets of absorbent paper towel in your beach tote, ring your hair out with your fingers and soak away any excess moisture with the paper towel.

5.

Planning a vacay over summer? Stock up on multi-use beauty buys to lighten your luggage, like cheek and lip balms or full-coverage BB creams with SPF.

6.

Forget about the curling iron – braided beach hair will leave you with gorgeous, I-woke-up-like-this waves for the evening.

7.

Invest in a quality setting spray, like Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, to take your look from morning to well into the night.

8.

Hide and treat unwanted pimples with a concealer containing salicylic acid or tea tree oil. Right now we’re loving Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clearing Concealer.

9.

Remember, UV rays can still pierce through windows (hello, driving arm-tan). So, even if you’re working inside during a glorious summer day, don’t sit in your fave sunny spot without applying SPF 30+ sunscreen.

10.

Are your strands fading in colour after long days in the sun? No worries. Pop about half a cup of apple cider vinegar into a spray bottle and spray your ends. Leave it for 10 minutes before washing it out to help maintain your hair tint.

11.

If you didn’t listen to us about lathering on the sunscreen while soaking up the warm rays, crack open some aloe vera gel or a lotion containing vitamins A, C and E to soothe sun-damaged skin.

12.

Fight the beach frizz with coconut oil. Pre-ocean dip, smooth in some coconut oil sparingly to your mid-lengths and ends to help keep locks hydrated and silky.

13.

Going for a ‘no make-up make-up’ look? Swipe a layer of bronzer over your eyelids and cheeks for a subtle, pretty glow.

14.

Prevent painful leg chafe at the beach by spraying your thighs with dry shampoo. It will act like baby powder and create a barrier between your skin and swimmers.

15.

Think your winter fragrance is too heavy? Switch to lighter, fruity, floral scents – they aren’t as overpowering in the heat.

16.

Beat the 3pm slump with a zesty face mist, like Tailor Mist. The citrus along with Kowhai and Kawakawa extracts in the spray will help give your senses a boost while hydrating skin.

17.

Rub ice over your legs after waxing or shaving to help perfectly prep them for  faux tanning. The ice will help tighten and close pores to avoid unwanted ingrowns or patchiness in the wrong places.

18.

Get over your fear of contouring with this easy sans-highlighter trick – swipe a sheer lip balm over your forehead, brow bones, nose and cupid’s bow. The natural light will bounce off your face, creating instant illumination. See! Not scary at all.

19.

Get lips like Kylie Jenner’s (without fillers) by applying a lighter lip shade in the center of your pout. The lighter colour will give the illusion of fuller, plumper lips.

20.

Get the most out of your favourite scents by rubbing a little Vaseline on your pulse points before spritzing. The ointment grabs the fragrance and helps it last a little longer on the skin.

21.

Is your face showing signs of a damn good night out? Dab a lighter shade of concealer in the corners of your eyes and slightly over your eyelids – it will make your peepers appear instantly brighter.

22.

After soaking in a relaxing, soapy bath, use a foot file to buff away any dry, hard skin. Follow it up with a good moisturiser to leave your feet feeling smooth.

23.

Sea salt can dry out your skin, making it feel tight and tough. Pack face wipes to give yourself the once-over and allow your skin to breathe between swims.

24.

A low-slung ponytail is the perfect hairstyle for tanning, surfing and swimming. Comb your hair back with your fingers to the nape of your neck, leaving it fairly loose and secure it with a band. Wrap and pin a piece of loose hair around the band to finish it off.

25.

Intensive hair masks and serums bring life back to sun-parched strands. Rub them in after shampooing and rinse to reveal satin-smooth hair.

26.

Looking to buff your bod (but not via squats)? Try a rub like Weleda Birch Body Scrub, for silky pins.

27.

If your skin often gets super oily, opt for a powder-base foundation and dust it over the spots you need it most.

28.

Even the most waterproof mascara is prone to shifting when combined with sunscreen and blistering heat. So get into the habit of keeping a stash of cotton buds on hand to clean up around the eyes. A pack of make-up wipes will also do the trick.

29.

The beach combination of salty strands and hat hair isn’t pretty, but it can be fixed. Pack volumising powder spray in your beach bag and rough it through your roots to revive those limp locks.

30.

If your usual base slides off easily in the heat, swap it for a lighter texture or opt for an oil-free formula, like Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow!.
