What better way to wrap the fashion week circuit than in Paris – the city of light? Home to some of the most renowned fashion houses in the world like Yves Saint Laurent and Givenchy, Paris is always a highly anticipated destination during fashion month. Having finally drawn to a close on March 7th, it is now time to pay tribute to the most covetable looks from this PFW (spoiler alert: there are a few).
1. Balmain
There were a number of striking looks in the Balmain show, with designer Olivier Rousteing paying homage to the brand’s origins by showcasing similar textures and silhouettes to the ones once designed by the brand’s founder, Pierre Balmain. Of note to us was this black and white ensemble featuring leather pants and a leather beret, with a structured peplum corset and bow detailing. Trés chic.
2. Chloé
Exuding effortless ‘90s minimalism, this wee white slip dress is reminiscent of many of Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic outfits. Sometimes less is more, and that’s certainly the case with this Chloé number.
3. Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood
After passing away at the end of 2022, the queen of punk’s legendary brand has been taken over by Andreas Kronthaler, her husband of almost three decades. Closing the show was this modern bridal look worn by Westwood’s granddaughter, Cora Corré. The corseted lace playsuit with platform boots seemed like the perfect tribute to the late fashion designer.
4. Chanel
With autumn already underway in Aotearoa, we’re already starting to reach for our knitwear. Deviating from Chanel’s signature tweed styles, this tri-colour print knit has us thinking pink. Paired with lace tights and black boots, this is a look we will be trying to replicate once the temperature drops.
5. Coperni
Turning heads this fashion week with their performative show featuring robot dogs, Coperni has also delivered some solid suiting this Paris Fashion Week. Our personal favourite was this short and oversized blazer combo, styled with black stockings and chunky boots.
6. Elie Saab
We are forever drooling over Elie Saab’s exquisitely crafted gowns, and this one is no exception. Striking the perfect balance between classic and modern, this dress features a sheer pleated skirt and structured off-the-shoulder bodice. We also adore this wrap choker – a trend we’re welcoming back with open arms.
7. Givenchy
It was hard to narrow down which Givenchy look was our favourite from their FW23 show, but this hot pink asymmetrical dress was hard to miss. With all silver jewellery and matching pink heels, this ensemble felt right out of Legally Blonde.
8. Miu Miu
Cardigans, stockings and low heel slingbacks were all over the runway at Miu Miu this fashion week, with their showcase of the prim and proper ‘office lady’. Of the looks featured, this sheer polka-dot dress with glasses and a messy up ‘do executed ‘librarian core’ perfectly.
9. Valentino
School-girl chic is in, according to Valentino. This look featuring an oversized white shirt and black tie layered underneath a thigh-skimming black mini dress was playfully offset with a bright magenta bag.
10. Saint Laurent
It was nothing but drama at Saint Laurent, with an array of ‘80s-style exaggerated blazers on display on the runway. Ultra-wide padded shoulders were used to create this iconic silhouette, juxtaposed with a feminine low-cut top and split-leg skirt. It’s a yes from us.
