Things to do in March

While March 1st marked the first day of Autumn, we can’t help but hold onto what little warmth we have left.

We’ve compiled a list of what’s on in Auckland for the month of March, to help you make the most of the remaining warm days – or at least distract yourself of the change coming.

1. Cointreau Sundowners
Highly-acclaimed The Tasting Shed in Kumeu is holding sundowner sessions throughout March between the hours of 4-7pm every Sunday. Enjoy a cocktail or two while listening to some tunes by local New Zealand DJ’s, including Dean Campbell and Tim Lambourne.

2. NZ’s Longest Catwalk
10 Days of Fashion in the City will be shutting down a block of Queen Street this weekend as New Zealand’s Longest Catwalk takes place. Looks from the central city’s most coveted designers and fashion stores will be on show, expertly styled by friend of FQ, Kylie Cooke. The show starts at 1pm and is open to everyone – we’d recommend arriving early to nab a good seat!

3. BMW Derby Day
The glamour of Auckland Cup Week begins March 5th – gather your girls and your favourite dress as fashion takes centre stage on Derby Day. Enter yourself or your friends in the Fashions in the Field competition with a chance to scoop $30,000 in prizes.

4. George in the Park

5. Auckland Coffee Festival
If you’ve ever ventured overseas and tried to find a ‘real coffee’ then you will agree with us when we say no one makes it quite like they do here in good old NZ. To celebrate our coffee culture, the Auckland Coffee Festival will be paying homage to our vibrant coffee scene at Shed 10 on March 5th. There will be an eclectic mix of coffee, food and music. Tickets are only $13 and can be purchased at iTICKET.

6. TED 2016
TED is a movement with world-renowned thinkers, artists and storytellers who share their ideas and dreams and for the first time ever, TED2016 will be  livestreaming the opening night from New York. Screenings will be taking place on Monday March 7th at Rialto Cinemas Broadway, Bridgeway Cinema in Northcote and Rialto in Dunedin.

8. NTC Live
After doing the rounds globally, New Zealand has finally made the cut for NTC Live. The event, to be held on Saturday March 19, includes a high intensity workout, running & pilates with a surprise Global Nike Master trainer who will also be live broadcasting NTC in Sydney. There will be lounge areas, beauty and massage stations and local DJ’s for some good tunes. Limited spaces are still available for Nike Training Club LIVE AKL, so get your squad together and head to www.ntctour.co.nz to register!

9. Auckland City Limits
If you were a regular Big Day Out-goer and still miss those days, Auckland City Limits is going to be the next best thing. Held at Western Springs on March 19, with headliners including Kendrick Lamar, The National and Cold War Kids plus local favourites Fat Freddy’s Drop and Shapeshifter. Whilst some may be spending their day sweating it out at NTC Live, others may prefer to spend their Saturday dancing their heart out to live music. Tickets are currently priced from $180 – but we guarantee you they’ll be going up so get in quick!
