The model will appear in the coveted swimsuit issue with her daughters.
American model Christie Brinkley will make a return to modelling at the age of 63, appearing in a photo shoot for Sports Illustrated’s iconic swimsuit issue.
The former model, who shot to fame in the late 70s and early 80s after appearing on three consecutive covers for the title (’79, ’80 and ’81) was photographed for the 2017 issue alongside her daughters Alexa Ray Joel (31) and Sailor Brinkley Cook (18).
Shot against the glamorous backdrop of a tropical Turks and Caicos beach, the model made a strong return to form after her 33-year absence.
Brinkley also shared the news to Instagram, highlighting the magazine’s body positive message.
“Yes! I am excited to announce that I am back in @si_swimsuit ..I figured with my gorgeous daughters @alexarayjoel and @sailorbrinkleycook by my side who’s going to be looking at me! Oh and My kids think I walk on water, so let’s not mention the apple box concealed just under the surface. Brinkley told People her first reaction when approached for the shoot was “At my age? No way!” but she said the opportunity to pose with her daughters was too good to pass up.
“When I turned 30, I was like, ‘This is the last time I’m posing in a bathing suit!’ When this issue comes out, I’ll be 63. I thought. ‘Those days are over.’ But to get to do it with my girls, I thought, ‘One last go!'”
Her daughter Alexa Ray Joel was born to singer Billy Joel, while her youngest Sailor Brinkley Cook is Brinkley’s only daughter from her marriage to architect Peter Cook.
